What the hell IS Abstract art, anyway? Can't my kid do that? Yes! They can! (And so should you.) Abstract art isn't about the part of your brain that identifies and categorizes objects. It's not necessarily a picture of a person. Or a thing. Although it can be. Abstract art is primal. It's the image you see behind your eyelids on a hot, summer day when you're laying outside with your eyes closed. If you look hard enough, you don't see darkness. You see... blood. And flesh. And membrane. Abstract is simply the shapes, colors, and emotions you see and feel before your brain catches up and, like a know-it-all, immediately tries to categorize and define what it "sees". Abstract is the sound the word makes before you understand its meaning. Because the meaning before the "meaning" is the real meaning. Know what I mean?
